Project Ideas: Yarn Caddy

Today I have a fun project to share with you from our Fabrics Department. Recently we started carrying these wheeled wire baskets - which of course you could use for many purposes and also had lots of different decor possibilities as well.

One of the ideas our Fabrics Department came up with was to use it as a YARN CADDY - and they even created this great fabric liner for it. The liner could be used with many different uses (although I really do love this idea of having a basket full of yarn on wheels :) so we have created a project sheet with full project instructions and patterns, which we have posted on our website.

Project Ideas: Home Wood Box

Today I just have a quick and simple home decor project to share with you. For this project we used one of our finished cream wood pieces - and then embellished it with some small wood letters that have been covered with coordinating pieces of pattern paper. From the same paper line we used a few chipboard embellishments and also some ribbon to dress up the pieces a bit more. This would be a very easy project to complete in just a few hours and would be a lovely handmade addition to your home!

Project Ideas: Collage Frames

I have a few more projects to share today!

Another new product we now carry at the store are these divided collage frames. They come in the finishes you see below (black and the textured browns) so with just some photos and paper you can create an amazing piece for your wall!

For the first project we added photos and then paper and embellishments from the Simple Stories Harvest Lane line. We also apply a vinyl saying to the frame, which added the perfect touch. You can find a project sheet with a list of supplies and detailed instructions HERE.

On the second project we used the black collage frame. Once again we added a combination of photos and pattern paper to the photo openings. For this project we used the Simple Stories Summer Fresh line. We also added vinyl to this piece, however with this project we added it directly the frame glass on a few of the photo openings. Decorated Frames.

If you are looking for a quick, easy craft or a fun way to add a little extra something to a photo display - why not pick up one of our unfinished frames and decorate it to match a particular photo or theme. With our huge selection of pattern paper and embellishments you could really create a frame to match just about anything you choose.

Back to School.

If you're anything like me, the start of school always seems to sneak up out of nowhere. Between enjoying those last few free days of summer and slowing gathering the necessary supplies somehow the first day is here before you know it.

This week I attended the school open house event for my kids, met all their teachers, and was immediately in a panic about what we should make each of them for a back to school gift.

But in the time frame of a few hours yesterday we came up with some really fun ideas for teacher gifts - and of course I wanted to share them with all of you as well.

Now my only problem is deciding which one to make for their teachers this weekend!

Teaching Touches Lives glass block: Simply adhere a piece of pattern paper to the back of a glass block, add vinyl to the front, tie a ribbon around, and fill with some glass beads. I think this would look great on any teacher's desk!

Back to School Mason Jars: Simple mason jars embellished with chalkboard paint, crayons, and some ribbon.

Pencil Tubes: Fill plastic tubes with treats or cover with paper to create the look of pencil. More information on this project can be found here.


Colored Pencil Vase: For this project we just surrounded a glass vase with colored pencils and tied a ruler ribbon around the outside. We placed artificial flowers in the vase but it would work with a bouquet of fresh flowers as well.

Decorated Notepad/Pencil Holder: We offer these pencil holders and a variety of styles of notebooks plain - for theses samples we just decorated them up a bit with pattern paper and a few embellishments.

"Grind" Gift Card Holder: Again using the plastic tubes, we filled one up with coffee beans (you could also use chocolate covered espresso beans) and added a gift tag and a coffee shop gift card with ribbon. Really simple but so cute!

#1 Teacher Pencil Block: For this project we drilled nine small holes in the top of a wood block, painted the block white, and then added some pattern paper, ribbon, and a cute message using alphabet stickers. Again, a project that I think would be a fun addition to any teacher's desk!

Redneck Wine Glasses.

Hi Everyone!

Today I wanted to share with all of you a really fun project we have featured in the store right now!! Check out these Redneck Wine Glasses...aren't they great!?

Created simply by gluing a jar to a candlestick these could be a fun project or gift for so many occasions. Of course you can leave it simple with just a jar and the candlestick, but you can also personalize them a bit more by adding beads, painting them, adding vinyl to them...or whatever else you can think of.

We also have created for you some really cute Redneck Wine Glass tags (that you can find HERE) so you can attach them to the wineglasses when giving them as a gift.

Yarn Wreath.

Check out this super cute yarn wreath that Jacquelyn in our floral department created!! Even though it looks really detailed and complex, it is actually really easy to make. And to help you create your own you can find a project sheet for the yarn wreath here.

Magnetic Boards.

Today I have a few fun projects to share with you using our new line of magnetic boards and accessories. These particular magnetic boards come in plain white which makes them perfect to decorate any way you want. For these samples all it took was a few of the accessory pieces, vinyl words, pattern paper, and some embellishments to create a board that could be used to decorate, display photos or keep notes tidy.

You can find all the new magnetic board supplies in aisle 16 of the store. The white magnetic boards come in four sizes and we also have plenty of accessories to chose from including frames, words, and shaped magnets.

Hi Everyone!

Firefly Jars.

This morning I shared a quick video of the Firefly Jars project that we have in the store on Twitter and Facebook (you can find the video HERE).

I thought I would also link everything up here with a photo and the project sheet as well. Everything you need to make the project is available on an endcap at the front of the store in-between aisles 20 & 21.

As I mentioned in the video I think these would be a great decor addition to any deck, patio or outside area for your summer BBQ's and get togethers. There is something so whimsical and fun about them when they are lit up...they definitely bring me back to my childhood when I really did bring jars full of fireflies into my room for the night.

Photo Trays.

If you are looking for a fun and easy project this week, we have the perfect idea for you!

The following samples were created using our SPC Trays. With a few pieces of paper and a couple of embellishments you can easily put these pieces together. Use them to display some of your favorite photos, or create one for a perfect baby, graduation, or anniversary gift.

The trays can be found in aisle 17 and better yet now through July 2nd they are offered in our current ad for the sale price of $8.88!

14 Days of Love 2011: Day 9

Day 9: Valentines 8x8 Shadowboxes - I just love how these turned out. Nicole made these samples for us and she did not disappoint. My favorite is the XOXO frame. I like the idea of covering the frame itself with paper. Here is the project sheet so you can make one for yourself or a friend. The best part is that these frames are on sale for $5.98 until Friday.
