Soft Cuddly Projects

Welcome to Knit Wits!

Hello everyone, and thanks for taking the time to check in on our great site!

My name is Julie, and I am the knitting instructor at Crafts Direct! Wow, how lucky am I doing something I love as my job! I like to think of myself as the Crafts Direct 'knit wit' at Crafts Direct on a mission to convert others and bring them in to my 'knit wit' fold! I chose the moniker 'knit-wit' as a loving name to display our interest in knitting and our witty personalities as well! As I tell all my knitting newbies - I am an addict and I need more people to join me!

As this is my first blog entry, I wanted to tell you a bit about our knitting at Craft's Direct. We offer beginning classes that concentrate on learning the basics of the knit and purl stitch, as well as additional project classes including knitting socks, mittens, hats, cables... a little something for everyone to try!

In addition to our classes, we offer a great opportunity to mix and mingle, get a little help when your knitting is in knots, and meet other 'knit-wits' that share your interest! These free meeting sessions are a great place to relax, gather together to knit, and share with others:

• Thursday evenings at Crafts Direct 6:00pm to 9:00pm in the store lounge and
• Monday evenings at Caribou Coffee on 25th Ave North 6:00pm to 9:00

So, bookmark our website, check in regularly, watch for new class offerings, and feel free to drop in and meet the other wonderful 'knit-wits' at Craft's Direct! I assure you, you will love the people and the fun!

Advice From...

We got in these postcards a while back and I just think they are the neatest thing. You can send them, keep them, share them, & even frame them. Each postcard starts with "Advice from a ..." and relate to life. I made a couple of samples for the store that I thought I would share them with you. I picked a few of the postcards I liked, here are the post cards I picked.

I then picked out papers that coordinated well with each of the postcards. I then went through my photos to find ones that related to the postcards I had chosen. I cut them down to fit on the postcards and matted them. I went as far as cutting around the snowflakes on the snowman postcard and tucked the photo behind. I added some rhinestones to the centers of some of the snowflakes for some dimension. For the lake sample I cut around the Cattails on the paper using an X-acto knife and tucked the postcard behind it. Use your imagination to create a one of a kind gift for the friend, mother, father, or the graduate in your life.

Cosmo Cricket Project!

Isn't this project just adorable? Shannon & Sarah Lynn in the Paper Crafts Dept. made this cute little chest using the "Girl Friday" line from Cosmo Cricket, and the little chest we sell here at Crafts Direct for only $8.99. They were inspired by the one Cosmo Cricket did using their "Little Man" line. I am planning on making one for my daughter, to put all her little hair clips in, and I can't wait.

Sit and Knit Tonight!

I just wanted to let you know that Julie, our Knitting Instructor, that sits in on the Sit & Knits will not be attending this evening due to a painful dentist visit. She looks forward to seeing you all next week. You are more than welcome to come and relax, sit & knit if you would like. Or spend a little time outdoors and enjoy this beautiful day.

Classes, Classes, & More Classes!

I have been busy working on May's Calendar of Events, and I am pretty excited about what we are offering. (It will be posted once I have dates finalized.) Our classes have been going over extremely well, and are planing on offering classes on specific projects in the near future. Season, who works in the Beads & Basics Dept is going start teaching our beading classes this May. She is a very talented person and came up with some pretty amazing projects for the beading 101 & 201 classes. Here is a sneak peak...

The turquoise Tassel necklace is the Beading 101 class project and the copper pendant necklace and earrings are the beading 201 projects. We still have openings in some of our classes we are offering this month, such as Mini Book Club, Crochet 101, Rosemaling, Cricut 101, and Knitting 201. Every Tuesday we have Open Crochet Night and every Thursday Sit & Knit. Check the calendar for more information.

Yankee BOGO

Every month Yankee Candle Company picks three scents that will be featured in their BOGO (Buy One Get One) special. The scents for April are: Lilac Blossoms, Island Spa, Sun & Sand.

Wall of Mirrors

We have a wall of mirrors! There are so many styles and sizes, that it is truly hard to believe. There are many more through out the home decor area of the store. Take time to "reflect" on the endless possibilities of decorating with one of our many mirrors.

Wall of Clocks

The "time" is now to come in to Crafts Direct and view our wall of clocks. If you are looking for a clock make sure you put us on you shopping list to check out. There is a variety of styles and sizes, and those of you who have a passport don't forget about all those points that will add up by purchasing you clock here. (If you don't have a passport make sure and ask us about it when you stop in).

It just amazes me how many talented people work here, Gerri who actually works in the Floral Dept. made these samples for us. She did such a wonderful job and aren't they adorable?
