International Quilt Market (Part 2)

Hello, again!

International Quilt Market was quite the experience!  One that I am still processing through and trying to decide which product to share with you next is a challenge in itself!

We visited the McKay Manor Musers booth on Thursday and then again on Saturday!  So many cute and neat ideas for using Shannon Cuddle Fleece!

They had super cute little stuffed animal patterns and amazing slippers for toddlers, teens, and adults. What could be better than soft, fuzzy slippers from Shannon Cuddle 3 or even Shannon Spa Cuddle!

“The Nap Sack” pattern makes a child’s sleeping bag with just 2 yards of Cuddle Fleece!

But our favorite from McKay Manor was their new quilt patterns that mix different textures of fabric.  She had several beautiful sample quilts; the blocks were cut from either cotton or flannel and then the 2” wide sashing between was cut from Shannon Cuddle Fleece.  The result was a beautiful multi-textured quilt; soft and warm and a little added appliqué gave the quilt character and uniqueness.
Shannon Fabrics shared great info on easier ways to use their fabrics in more intricate projects.

For some projects, simply ironing a lightweight interfacing to the back to eliminate the stretch will make it easier to sew.  Also Heat n Bond can be ironed to the back of Cuddle Fleece.  Never iron Shannon Cuddle on the front of the fabric; but a little heat on the back will adhere interfacing to stabilize it or heat and bond to appliqué it to another piece of fabric-or using a pressing cloth. I had to try this myself before writing about it be sure it really worked as well as they said. And it was super easy. And now that we know how to do this…oh, so many possibilities!

So come on in and shop our selection of 36 feet of Shannon Cuddle Fleece!  You can find all the patterns I talked about hanging conveniently right in the midst of all the cuddle fleece.

International Quilt Market

Dear Fellow Quilters!

We are super excited to have returned from the 2015 International Quilt Market.  There were over 250 Exhibitors, including companies from all over the world, with all kinds of products from fabric and trims to patterns and tools! Although, we did not visit every booth, we would like to share with you some of the exciting new things we saw and some products we will be selling in the store!

Leah and Sarah from the Quilt Shop Department

One of the things we are excited to tell you about is the
“Six Halves Make a Whole” Program.

The Quilt Branch company has designed several patterns using the Creative Grids House Ruler and Cottage Ruler. With these tools and patterns you can create some pretty classic or contemporary quilts.

House Ruler

Cottage Ruler (On order, coming soon to Crafts Direct)

Individual Patterns and Pattern Books

You can start with just 6 half yard cuts! To make that initial color decision a little easier we have created bundles of 6 half yard cuts for you. We have a large variety of already bundled fabric collections so there is no stress in finding matching fabrics on your own. For some of the patterns that is all you will need. For others you will need to just add background yardage.

If you need help with those extra couple yards, please see a Quilt Shop Team Member and we will gladly assist you. Then all you have to do is cut and sew!

Come on in and check out our end cap of new patterns and ½ yard Bundles at the back of aisle 29/30!

As you make projects from the "Six Halves Make a Whole Program," please take a photo, upload it to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #CraftsDirectDIY in your post.
Your project may be featured on one of our social media platforms or in our store!

Stay tuned for more International Quilt Market excitement!

Mom Gift Ideas - Projects to make!

Here are a few last minute ideas that you can make for your Mom!

MOM MDF Stands

Cute decorated stands you can personalize as you wish with your favorite embellishments or papers!

The vinyl and the enlarged photo really make this shadowbox frame stand out! Add some paper and embellishments and you are done!

Chalkboard Letter

Use any letter you wish, "M" for Mom or perhaps the first letter of moms name.

Great Love Shadowbox

A very pretty shadowbox, choose from the listed supplies or choose to your own liking, finish it off with applying the vinyl saying on top of the glass.

Home Decor Tape Frame

This is a quick and easy project with just a few supplies.

Family Shadowbox with Tray

There are so many possibilities with using these divided wood trays. The one above would be perfect to create and give to your mom as a gift! We also have many other project samples using these trays.

Shadowbox with Banner

The banner across the top of the shadowbox adds a little extra flair to the project. Add the touching vinyl sentiment to the outside of the glass and you have a beautiful gift!

 Large Photo Tray

Enlarge a photo to 12x12 size (We got ours printed at The Camera Shop here in town) and cut the photo down to 2-5/8” x 3-5/8” pieces to create this unique looking design.

Find an image or word/sentiment online to trace onto wooden plaque and create a nice String Art piece.

Hopefully one of these projects inspires you to break out the craft supplies and create something for Mom! Otherwise, we have an online project gallery full of other ideas! Take a look and see if anything catches your eye!
